The NIE is an identification number used for many procedures. On its own, it is neither an identity document nor an automatic right to live in Spain. The TIE is a physical card intended for certain foreign nationals; the right of residence depends on status and circumstances.
Describe the household precisely
Note nationality, date of arrival, employment or pension, family members and intended duration of stay. An EU citizen, their non-EU spouse and a remote worker may follow different routes while living at the same address.
Prepare the evidence
Gather valid passports, civil-status certificates, proof of income or work, health cover and proof of address. Check whether some documents require an apostille, legalisation or sworn translation.
